VIA Oshawa Station

Soldier Piles and Lagging

Project Description

The construction of two new station platforms at the VIA Rail station in Oshawa necessitated shoring to enable the continuous operation of existing tracks. RWH Engineering Inc. (RWH) engaged the project, designing a system which met the stringent AREMA specifications for railway work. Two shoring walls were constructed opposite each other, both supporting a set of railway tracks, to allow for the platform construction in-between. The shoring walls were installed approximately two meters from the edge of the existing tracks, which remained fully operational throughout the duration of the project. Tiebacks were drilled in conjunction with a double soldier pile and lagging shoring system to avoid pile twisting.
